It’s the middle of summer and we just moved to a new state so at the moment my daughter Isabella is not in a sport but once school starts she will be involved in something. She has done a lot of different sports over the years from dance to soccer to tennis and cheerleading. For me, it is important to be raising active and healthy children.
I want to make sure I do what I can to keep her healthy and active. these 5 tips have made that easier to do. Your kids are probably active like my daughter even in the summer. With swimming and riding scooters and playing with friends.
1 Make sure they get enough sleep
Since my daughter is so active it’s important for me to make sure she’s resting enough. That means making sure she goes to bed early enough and if she’s been really active and busy encouraging her to lay down rest sometimes. Not to necessarily take a nap but to at least take a rest. Resting her body helps her healthier and have an easier time being active.
2. encourage balance in their lives
I think it’s really important to give kids balance in their lives. Making sure they are having fun but being responsible. Using their bodies and being active but also making sure she uses her brain and makes sure she does her school work and reads.
3. Keep them well fed
To keep your kids active and healthy you need to make sure they are well fed and eat enough healthy and quality food. I’m lucky that my daughter loves fruits and vegetables so it’s easy to get her to eat well. I just do my best to make sure she eats enough and the right things so she can have energy and be healthy.
4. Keep them hydrated
Thi especially important during the warmer months. Although if they are doing sports and are really active you need to make sure to keep them hydrated and get enough fluids.
One way to stay hydrated is with BODYARMOR. It is a premium sports drink with potassium-packed electrolytes, coconut water, and vitamins – and has no artificial flavors or sweeteners. They also come in lots of great flavors that we love like fruit punch, mixed berry, and lemonade.
I always make sure to remind my daughter to take a drink out with her when she’s going to the park or we bring a drink with us when we go out to take a walk or go swim. Kids really need to stay hydrated if they are going to be healthy and active.
Check out where you can get them near you by going here. Here where I live in Colorado we have found them at Safeway and King Soopers.
5. Give them a vote in what they do
If you are struggling to get your kid to want to do sports and be more active. Try giving them a say in what activities they try. They are more likely to stay interested and work harder at something they chose. At my daughter’s old school they gave a list of all the available sports to do after school. This was a great way for her to try something new. They did things once a week for 6-8 weeks. So it was less of a commitment than joining a league or team.
