This year I decided to do something different with my monthly goals post and my blog income report. I was feeling like these two posts each month were feeling pretty stale and I wasn’t excited to write them as much. At the same time, I love setting monthly goals and find it helpful to share my reports and goals each month.
It was just time to shake things up and make these posts more fun and interesting to write so that they are more enjoyable for you to read. So I began combining the two posts in a way. Sharing not only how my blog had done in the month prior but what I was hoping to accomplish in the current month.
Blogging has been such a positive experience for me. Even after doing it for years I still enjoy it and love the lessons I’ve learned from it and the people I’ve met. It’s also so amazing to be able to earn some extra money doing something I enjoy while at home.
If you’re new to A Fresh Start on a Budget you may be wondering why I would want to publish my income report each month. You can simply skip to the next section if you’re not new here.
Why do I share my blog income report each month? There are a few reasons
- I have loved reading other bloggers reports and still do. I’ve learned so much from them and hope to offer the same to other bloggers. I enjoy reading reports from bloggers bigger and smaller than me. I have learned a lot from bigger and smaller blogs.
- It holds me accountable to my blog and continuing to grow my business. Even on months where my growth is smaller I still feel accountable to share
- I also want to show that even as a long time blogger I am just starting to learn to grow my income. This way I can share this journey of blog growth and my making money from the early stages.
Income report January 2019:
As I had expected my income went down from December and November to January. I tend to get an increase in income around the holiday season. Since people are shopping for Christmas and I have a few gift guides. January was an ok month but I have hopes that February will be much better. I’m really going to focus on a couple affiliate promotions in February and March and am hoping that helps both my traffic and income.
I’m not where I’d like to be with my blog income yet. That’s alright I’m getting there and growing each year. I hope that at the beginning of the new year I will hit the five-figure a month goal I have for myself. That’s what I’m working hard towards. I still have to remind myself that last year I didn’t even hit $100 a month each month and now I’m hitting almost a $1000 a month pretty frequently. That’s ten times growth. If I do that between 2018 and 2019 I will be hitting $10,000 a month. Which would be incredible.
I find it important to share my not so good months as well as my good months because I want you to know that it’s possible to make money blogging. That blogging can be an up and down journey. It will take work and time but you can do it. I wasn’t sure if I would ever make money with my blog and I now am and you can do it too!

Sponsored posts: $125
affiliate income: $60
My Products: $45
Total income: $555
Convertkit $49 This is the email subscriber that I use to send my newsletter and grow my list.
Ivory mix: $12 ( technically it’s $24 for 2 months) – this is the best price I’ve found for a wide variety of good quality photos. You get dozens of new images to use each month and Kayla who runs the site constantly asks for what her subscribers want in photos so she creates what you need. I use these images in blog posts, landing and sales pages, social media and more)
Tailwind –$15 Tailwind is the scheduler I use when I do all my pinning on Pinterest. It’s my favorite scheduler that I’ve tried out and makes it possible for me to be very active on Pinterest. I cover a lot of why I love it and how to use it in my ebook.
Thrive architect: This was a one time purchase and not a monthly charge and it was the most affordable option for building my landing and sales pages.
Total Expenses: $76
Now that I’ve been doing income reports for more than a year! Which is crazy it feels like I just started sharing them I want to see how I’m growing. Here is last years blog income report.
My Blog Traffic in January
Checking on your numbers too often can be kind of a buzzkill especially when you are going through a dip or a slump. So I really try to only focus on my numbers month to month and in comparison to the year before.
Comparing traffic from this year to last year will give me a better idea of whether or not what I’m doing this year is helping my blog to grow. So I compared January to both last month and January of last year.
My traffic was slightly lower from December to January. It was a lot better when compared to last years traffic though. My page views were up 40% from January 2018 to January 2019. There is still lots of room for improvement in my traffic though. I want to continue to grow my blog traffic and see improvements from year to year.
January 2019 vs. January 2018
What worked for my blog in January
I did not get to blog or focus on blogging as much as I would have liked to in January. Between being out of town for a week and a stomach virus that took us all down during the month blogging kind of got put on the back burner.
I did the minimum and that’s ok some months are going to be really productive and other months are not going to be as good. I dod continue to plan out my year though and brainstorm some new free and paid content for both of my blogs that I will release this year.
I’ve been slowly working on moving my blogging content from this blog to the new one and creating new content for the blog. Now that it is a new year and my daughter is back in school it’s time to get focused on blogging.
Here are my top blog goals and priorities for February 2019
- to plan out my affiliate promotions so that I can make them as successful as possible. I’m excited to see what happens when I have a plan in place and really apply what I’ve learned about affiliate marketing
- to work on my book update for How to Boost your Pinterest Presence. The book will be updated and relaunched in March or April so I need to get that worked on/
- to segment and engage my email list more effectively. My list is slowly growing but I believe that I could do it faster and better.
