So August is over and I have made it through my challenge. It was not easy nor was it as hard as I thought it would be. Most of the time it was no big deal but there were the occasional moments where I was frustrated with not being able to buy something I wanted or being able to go and do something. All in all it was a good experience and it wont be my last no spend month I’m sure.
We did splurge a little this last week with buying a movie and fast food a couple of times but we were more aware of it than in the past and it wasn’t just impulsive spending.
I am really glad we did this challenge and I feel that as a family we all learned a lot from the experience. When you have the rule to not spend money you really pay more attention to where you want to spend money and on what. Usually we would buy little things here or there and not even really notice how much it was adding up.
Even though money is still an issue for us with us needing to pay off debt and build some savings it was nice this past month to have a little more breathing room because we were probably saving around $50-75 a week in cutting down grocery costs and limiting extra spending.
Even though the challenge has come to an end I think that my husband and I are both going to be more aware of what we are spending and not make as many impulsive buys.
My next budget challenge is to get into coupons and cut down how much we spend on groceries. I know we could be doing better on that and get more for our money. We don’t spend a lot on groceries but I think we could be getting more food for what we are spending.
So I hope you all will continue to follow along on my journey to get my finances more under control and to be more informed about money issues. There is a lot of improvement to be made since my husband and I are both not very good with money. We will get this figured out though.
Thanks again for all the support and kind words on our journey this past month.
