So we do our grocery shopping on the weekends typically. I committed to do meal planning for the third week. My week 2 update is right here and here is week 3. I want to work on saving money on groceries and have been trying to cut down my food spending. These are my budget tips that I’ve been using and more articles to help you figure out your own budget.
1. so first thing I did was look at what I still had on hand in the freezer and pantry. I’m trying to break myself of the bad habit of buying stuff we already have or more than we need.
2. Then I thought of what meals we’d eat during the week. It’s only my daughter and I at dinner time, my husband is at work, so I try to make enough for leftovers for him when he gets home and for lunch the next day. I don’t like cooking very much so most meals are pretty simple and quick to make.
3 I don’t want to assign a meal to a certain day, that doesn’t work for me, so I just came up with at least five meals and I’ll make them on whatever night works. tacos bbq chicken with salad, hot dogs, spaghetti hamburgers
4. Then I made the list with those meals in mind and what we didn’t have to make them. I checked the kitchen for what we were low on, like we have waffles a lot and I noticed we were out of Syrup. Also I checked expiration dates, to see if we needed more of anything. To save on gas I don’t want us having to drive in to town to the store multiple times during the week. With gas prices so high we are trying to limit driving as much as possible.
5. Then on my list I will sometimes just put fruit on the list and then wait till I get to the store to see what looks the best and are the best deals. Since Fruit is so seasonal I want to make sure I’m getting the best deal on the best product.
