If you read my post from earlier this week where I shared my goals for 2018 I also told you I had a word of the year that I would be sharing in a post.
I had tried setting words of the year for the last few years and they had never really done anything to make my year better or more successful. Then last year I set the word, well technically a phrase, of risk taker for the year of 2017. Taking risks has never been a natural fit for my personality but I knew that 2017 was going to be a year I needed to step up and do it.
Moving from my hometown in California to a new city in Colorado was going to be a huge challenge and so last year I wanted to be a better risk taker. So starting with the actual move, leaving the family and friends I had always lived near were huge risks and I was happy that I did it.
Then when situations that caused me to step out of my comfort zone. I would remind myself of my pledge to be a risk taker. This was actually the motivation that I needed to venture out of my comfort zone and try a few new things in 2017.
So at the end of last year, I started thinking what should my word be for 2018. I wanted to really choose the right word because I now know it can make a real difference in my year.
At first, I thought of choosing a different word than I ended up with but after a few days of thinking on the word and really trying to imagine what I wanted to get out of 2018, I finally settled on the right
So for 2018 my word is
So why did I go for the word action? Well, for me I like to think and think and think some more when it comes to things. Where I stumble is on actually doing these things. So I want to focus on action this year.
I want to make a commitment to act on ideas that I have and when I learn of something that may help me in my life to actually do it and not just push it aside and forget about it. I want to stop just having ideas and actually make plans and do things!
How I’m going to put Action into place in my life in 2018?
1. I’m making my goals to get out and do more
I’ve realized that I am too focused on building my blog. While that is a good thing it also becomes too easy to stay home and work or to work while my family is home and off of work and school. So in my goals for this year, I’m committing to a weekend off a month. I took a week and a half off for Christmas and my California trip and it was nice not being attached to my laptop 24/7.
Choosing my word of the year for 2018 to be action is going to push me to do more things and be a part of life more. Instead of just watching it. My hope is that this will make me a better wife and mother as well as a better blogger because I will have more stories to tell and be living more life.
2. I’m going to focus on trying new things
Not only am I going to be taking more time to do things. I also am pushing myself to make some of those actions be new things. I don’t know about you but I get in the habit of doing what I’m used to and what is comfortable.
I figure there is a big world out there and so much to see and do and try. I need to push myself to take action and try more new things. It can be scary but I’m excited about lots of new experiences this year.
3. Putting my word of the year where I can see it and be constantly reminded
I found these great backgrounds for my phone over on the Female Entrepreneur Association’s Website. I signed up and got her downloads downloaded my word background and added it to my phone. Now I’m reminded of my word of the year constantly.
Now I know I’m posting this in the new year but there is still time. Even if you are reading this at the end of the year. Choose your word of the year now. Then start living that word. If you don’t know what word to choose. Sign up and get my list of 25 of my favorite words not including mine.
