I am so excited to be bringing you this post about a family favorite outing and a great place to visit and a wonderful experience for so many people of my friends and our families.
I’m talking about the San Diego Zoo. I love living within a short drive from both the San Diego Zoo and their Safari park. I’ve been visiting the zoo since I was a little girl and we have taken my daughter to both since she was a tiny little girl.
This year the San Diego Zoo is celebrating 100 years since it opened! That is quite an achievement. It was founded in 1916 by Dr. Harry Wegeforth. The zoo now has earned the distinction of being a world leader in connecting people to wildlife and conservation.
Check out this short video to see more about what this Zoo is like.
Going to the Zoo is such a great opportunity for children. I think it can help them understand and get to know animals better and helps establish a love and concern for animals.
We started taking our daughter when she was only a month old and although she didn’t understand anything at that age. I just think it’s a good idea to start them young with outings to the Zoo.
They put on really great events around the holidays and during the summer. We have taken our daughter to see Santa at the Zoo quite a few times. There are decorations and lights and it is a beautiful and fun experience for us as parents and for her when she was young.
The Zoo also has great activities during the summer. If you are able to plan a visit you should check it out. From June 19th through September 5th you can check out the Nighttime Zoo. It is a wonderful experience full of music, dancing and fun.
It’s also a great time to visit because it takes place in the evenings so it’s not too hot. I’m hoping we get the chance to visit the Nighttime Zoo this year. Probably at the end of summer before school starts back up again.
Watching my daughter grow through visits
Since we started taking her at only a month old and she still continues to visit she has been going to the Zoo now for almost ten years.
It is so much fun to see the photos of her from all ages there and see how much she has always enjoyed it. She has always enjoyed seeing the animals and getting to learn more about them.
Check out the difference from one of her first visits to the most recent from May.
Although many of you probably don’t live close by the San Diego Zoo I hope if you come to down for a visit you will check it out. Also check out which Zoo’s are near where you live for a fun place to take your children.
