I haven’t been doing my Women to Watch Wednesday’s the last few weeks. The Holidays make everything so busy but I want to start that back up with some tweaks in the new year. For this week though. I just want to share with you a special woman who was a part of my life. My great grandma. She passed away a few days ago but living to the age 93 is pretty amazing. I just wanted to share a little about this amazing woman who was a big part of my family. She got pregnant with my grandpa when she wasn’t married which is no big deal now but quite the scandal in the 1940’s. So Much so that her family sent her away from California where they lived to Texas alone to go have my grandpa. She met her husband when my grandpa was really little so he was his dad for all purposes and raised my grandpa and gave him his last name. She lived in a different time though and she was out there hunting with her husband and two sons. She would hunt deer and clean them. I can’t imagine her doing it but she was apparently very good at it. There are articles written about her hunting in the local newspaper that someone kept in a photo album. She was a very independent lady and stubborn too which she passed down to the rest of my family we are a stubborn bunch. Two years ago she had both her sons die in the same week and she was 91 and she handled it. I can’t even imagine but she was a strong woman. Up until 2 weeks ago she lived on her own, then she started declining with age and went to the hospital and a nursing home. She wanted to die in her own bed so that’s where we got her to. I’m sad she passed away but she lived a long life and she’s at peace now and for that I’m glad.
