This year I decided to do something different with my monthly goals post and my blog income report. I was feeling like these two posts each month were feeling pretty stale and I wasn’t excited to write them as much. At the same time, I love setting monthly goals and find it helpful to share my reports and goals each month.
It was just time to shake things up and make these posts more fun and interesting to write so that they are more enjoyable for you to read. So I began combining the two posts in a way. Sharing not only how my blog had done in the month prior but what I was hoping to accomplish in the current month.
Blogging has been such a positive experience for me. Even after doing it for years I still enjoy it and love the lessons I’ve learned from it and the people I’ve met. It’s also so amazing to be able to earn some extra money doing something I enjoy while at home. If you are looking to begin Making Money blogging here is what helped me have a major breakthrough and begin earning money on my blog and I know it can help you too.
If you’re new to A Fresh Start on a Budget you may be wondering why I would want to publish my income report each month. You can simply skip to the next section if you’re not new here.
Why do I share my blog income report each month? I have a few reasons
- I have loved reading other bloggers reports and still do. I learn so much from them and hope to offer the same to other bloggers. I enjoy reading reports from bloggers bigger and smaller than me. I have learned a lot from bigger and smaller blogs.
- It holds me accountable to my blog and continuing to grow my business. Even on months where my growth is smaller I still feel accountable to share
- I also want to show that even as a long time blogger I am just starting to learn to grow my income. This way I can share this journey of blog growth and my making money from the early stages.
Income report November 2018:
November was a good month for my blog. I earned my second highest income of the year in November. Second only to July of this year. I’m excited for the new year ahead and have many ideas on how to grow both my blog and my income from blogging in the upcoming year.
I’m not where I’d like to be yet but that’s ok I’m getting there and growing each year. I hope that at the beginning of the new year I will hit the five-figure a month goal I have for myself. That’s what I’m working hard towards. I still have to remind myself that last year I didn’t even hit $100 a month each month and now I’m hitting almost a $1000 a month pretty frequently. That’s ten times growth. If I do that between 2018 and 2019 I will be hitting $10,000 a month. Which would be incredible.
I find it important to share my not so good months as well as my good months because I want you to know that it’s possible to make money blogging. That blogging can be an up and down journey. It will take work and time but you can do it. I wasn’t sure if I would ever make money with my blog and I now am and you can do it too!

Convertkit $49 This is the email subscriber that I use to send my newsletter and grow my list. When I was first blogging I used Mailchimp but as my blog and list grew I needed a provider that could do more. With Convertkit I can separate and tag my list as well as send out my FREE challenges.
My convertkit went up in price from $29 to $49 because I hit over 1,000 subscribers. As your list grows your cost increases but an email list is so crucial if you want to earn money from your blog. So it’s a
Ivory mix: $12 ( technically it’s $24 for 2 months) – this is the best price I’ve found for a wide variety of good quality photos. You get dozens of new images to use each month and Kayla who runs the site constantly asks for what her subscribers want in photos so she creates what you need. I use these images in blog posts, landing and sales pages, social media and more)
Tailwind –$15 Tailwind is the scheduler I use when I do all my pinning on Pinterest. It’s my favorite scheduler that I’ve tried out and makes it possible for me to be very active on Pinterest. I cover a lot of why I love it and how to use it in my ebook.
Thrive architect: This is a one time purchase and not a monthly charge. I liked using Instapage and have no complaints about them but my products are not bringing in enough monthly to cover the cost. So when I heard about thrive architect. Which allows you to build pages on your blog that I can create my sales pages on I was ready to make the switch. (This was a one time fee of $67 and it was the most affordable option for building my landing and sales pages.)
Total Expenses: $76
Now that I’ve been doing income reports for more than a year! Which is crazy it feels like I just started sharing them I want to see how I’m growing. Here is last years blog income report.
My Blog Traffic in November
My traffic has continued to go up from where it was during the summer slump. I still need to continue to work on growing my traffic though because I’ve had many better months over the years than where my traffic is now. If you are a blogger and saw your traffic drop over the summer try not to worry because this is normal for most blogs. It also is important to not just compare your traffic month to month but from year to year. Month to month there are a lot of variables out of your control that can affect traffic like holidays and such.
Comparing traffic from this year to last year will give me a better idea of whether or not what I’m doing this year is helping my blog to grow. So I compared November to both last month and November of last year.
November 2018 vs. November 2017
There is still lots of room for improvement in my traffic though. I want to continue to grow my blog traffic and see improvements from year to year. I tend to see a lot of traffic on the first months of the year as people are searching for ways to be more organized. We shall see if that trend continues in 2019.
What worked for my blog in November
For a while now I’ve been thinking over whether or not to create a second blog for my content for bloggers. Since I have both an audience that likes my budgeting and organizational content and some who like my blogging and social media posts.
I wondered if having them all on one blog was no longer a good idea. If it would be better to have two more niched blogs than one blog with no clear focus. So at the end of November, I went for it and created karissaancell.com.
So I’ve been slowly working on moving my blogging content from this blog to the new one and creating new content for the blog.
Here are my top blog goals and priorities for December 2018
- to continue adding posts and content to both of my blogs.
- to create a plan for 2019 for my blogs and business. I want to get more clear on my goals and plan out the new year for success.
To help you grow your own blogs and start making your own income I wanted to include some resources. The best way to grow your blog is to always be willing to learn.
