One thing I really want this year is to make not only my home more organized but to also help you find simple solutions and the easiest ways to make your home more organized. Over the last couple of years, I’ve learned that having an organized home doesn’t have to be as much work or as complicated as we tend to make it.
I am not a big fan of cleaning and organizing and I know that many of you aren’t big fans of it either. That’s why finding ways to make it take less time and be less work are so important to me. Here are a few of the easiest ways to make your home more organized that you can start using today.
#1 Do a little every day
It feels like too often that housework becomes overwhelming. You go to do the laundry and there are multiple loads to be done, the dishes are piled in the sink, the toys are strewn across the house. So you don’t want to do it because it’s going to be so much work.
I get it. This was a big part of my problem when my daughter was younger. I waited to do it all at once. Then there was so much to do that I was discouraged and would either just do the bare minimum without finishing the task or I’d put it off longer.
Now I’ve found that one of the easiest ways to make your home more organized is to make time to do a little every day. Throw in a load of laundry and put it away. Taking time to do the dishes and a quick pick up. This way nothing gets the chance to build up into a gigantic mess.
#2 purge Ruthlessly
I use to be almost borderline hoarder growing up. It drove my mom insane but I hated to get rid of anything. Too much clutter was the number one reason my home was always a mess. Then a year ago we sold our house to move to another state. I said I am not taking all this junk with me. So I began to let things go and take pleasure from having less stuff.
It was not as hard as I thought it would be. Here are 80 things you can throw out that are just junk. It is a great place to start. Then keep purging and make it a regular event. I’m going to do another decluttering of my closet this winter so that I only bring in clothes that fit and that I want into the next season.
If dealing with too much clutter is a challenge with you and it was for me for a long time. You should check out the book Unstuffed by Ruth Soukup it is an incredible book that really helped me begin my journey to getting rid of stuff.

#3 Give everything a place
Once you have tackled and gotten some control over clutter which is one of my favorite of the easiest ways to make your home more organized. Then you can actually give the things in your home a place. That is too hard to do when you have stuff piled in corners and spilling out of drawers.
In our old home, we had a tiny kitchen and our new kitchen is much larger and can easily hold what was stuffed in our old kitchen. So I have to remind myself that I don’t need to fill every space. That I can enjoy having empty drawers and cabinets with extra space.
I also am doing the closet purge. I like to have enough hangers for the clothes I have. I’m getting to where I need more hangers but I asked myself am I really wearing all these clothes. The answer is no so why have them in my closet.
So give the spaces in your home limitations and your stuff places. That way you will know when you are starting to have too much. The process of organization is an ongoing journey and there isn’t really an end.
It’s about putting systems in place to make your home more organized so it’s a better place to live and a more peaceful environment for you and your family.
