I think all stages of parenting come with pros and cons. So far in the eleven years I’ve been a parent this has been true. I also have found that you have to tweak your parenting style with different ages. This is our first Christmas in a  new state away from family so the holidays are extra important to me this year.

Now that Isabella is a tween I want to create different meaningful moments with her for the holidays. We are trying to include her in as much as possible and let her come up with some of her own ideas for Christmas traditions. Starting with us all getting matching family Christmas Pajamas. Not all fifth graders would suggest that so when she did we went with it and we will be  matching elves this Christmas morning.

We also do a tradition in my family where we draw names for the adults and you get that person a gift. The kids get gifts from everyone so she’s not included in the drawing so she said she wanted the three of us to draw names. So she got a bowl put pieces of paper with our names and a few blank ones and we drew names.

One of the things we love most at Christmas is hot chocolate and these hot chocalates from StephensGourmet are amazing. We made some of the Pepermint Candycane one to enjoy while we decorated the tree and the house. It was so good! I put some in my coffee as well and loved it.

Some of Stephen’s Gourmet signature cocoa flavors include:

  • Salted Caramel
  • CandyCane
  • Mint Truffle
  • Dark Chocolate
  • S’mores

We are going to go look at some Christmas light displays in he next week or two and I think it will be a perfect opportunity to give the Salted Caramel flavor Hot chocolate a try. Other ideas that I have for this holiday season with Isabella are a couple trips to the movies, a Christmas cookie exchange party with her friends and our neighbors. She is really excited that she gets to help host a party and make choices for it.

Your kids may want to do other activities for the Holidays than my daughter does. Heck at 11 her moods change all the time and next week she wouldn’t want to do these things she found fun this weekend. That’s why I find making holiday memories to be more fun and easier when we include her in the decisions and let her be a part of the process.
