I get a lot of inspiration for my blog by reading other blogs. One of my favorite blogs is Modern Mrs. Darcy and she just did a post on things she learned in August. I thought it was a great post and I wanted to share with my readers some of the things I learned this summer. Some of the stuff is blogging/business related and some are not. Some things are meaningful and important and some are silly and fun.
A really awesome phone hack for Instagram
This was such a cool hack to learn and I immediately set it up on my phone. That’s how you know it was a great hack I took action on it. How often do you hear something awesome but never get around to taking action on what you learn? I do it all the time!! I’m horrible about actually putting what I learned into place. For this, though I knew that it would make my Instagram posting so much easier if I did this. So I did it right away!
That the people we loved and lost are still looking after us
I’m lucky to have made it to almost 33 without losing many people that I love. It’s a matter of luck and I appreciate that I’ve been blessed. The one major loss I’ve had is my grandpa. He died 5 years ago right after I started blogging. I’m glad I got to tell him I had started a blog but I wis he was around to see me continue with the journey and begin selling products and making an income from it. He would have liked to have seen me succeeding at blogging years later.
My papa was also very important to my husband as well. We have been together since we were teens so my husband knew my grandpa well. We’ve even talked about naming any future boy children with his name as their middle name. Well, I think he looks out for my family and helps make things happen for us. I know not everyone believes in this and in heaven but I do. My grandpa loved to hunt elk and deer and I think of him when I see deer. My husband was looking for a new job out here in Colorado and on an interview he saw a deer. He didn’t get a callback but another employer on the same property called him in for an interview and my husband saw two deer that day He got that job and it’s going to make our lives so much easier financially. All those deer I see as a sign from my papa that he’s watching over us which makes me happy.
3. That Devon Sawa who was popular in the 90’s is on a new show
I don’t know if you grew up in the 1990’s but I did and Devon Sawa was pretty big back then. He was in Final Destination, Idle Hands, and Casper. I started watching a new show on ABC called Somewhere Between and I noticed the main guy looked familiar. I couldn’ place where I’d seen him before so I looked it up and it was Devon Sawa but like all of us he also aged and looked older.
It’s a really good show. A bit of a thriller and mystery and it’s hooked me. I need to know what happens next. It also stars Paula Patton and she plays a mother desperate to save her daughter.
4. That Buzzfeed has a new Tasty app
I’m sure you’ve seen those Tasty videos online at some point. Of a meal being made. I find them super addictive and even if I don’t like to cook I like to watch the videos. They make cooking look so easy and fun. When in reality I don’t think it is. Buzzfeed runs Tasty and they recently launched a Tasty app which is awesome. My daughter also loves watching the videos on it.
5. That disasters can bring out the best in people.
I already believed this prior to this summer but this latest disaster in Texas just shows that even in the worst of times and horrible situations. You can find some good. Seeing all the people who want to help and support those affected by the hurricane shows me that even though this world may have a lot of problems and there is a lot of disagreement and fighting. That people want to help other people and care about strangers and want to help.
This makes me feel that the good out ways the bad and it’s good to e reminded of that. I just wish it didn’t take a massive disaster to make that feel true. I love this quote from Fred Rogers. It’s so true and I’m glad to know that there are always so many people out there willing to help others. I love helping people and doing what I can to support those less fortunate than I am. Sometimes the world seems so dangerous and horrible. It’s good to get reminders that so many people care.
