Watching the Olympics with a 5 year old. This is the first time I’ve watched the Olympics with my daughter. The winter Olympics of 2010 I was hospitalized the whole time so I watched most of it alone in my hospital bed. The ’08 Olympics she was not even two so she didn’t care. So I’ve been trying to watch some of it with her. She doesn’t get the concept of countries so when we were watching swimming she just picked the swimmer whose swim cap she liked best. She asked who I chose and when I said the United States because that’s the country we are in she got mad I wouldn’t pick the same random country she did. Then she asked if her cousin lived in the united States too, that’s how I know she doesn’t understand the idea of countries. Her cousin lives 30 minutes away. She did really like gymnastics. She would like to do gymnastics but she’s doing karate right now. She seemed pretty amazed watching the girls do the vault. It will be a lot more fun in four years when shes 9 and really understands what’s going on better. I mostly watch swimming, diving and gymnastics which she does seem to enjoy even if she doesn’t really get the concept of the olympics
