As someone who openly loves this time of year. The excitement of setting goals and dreaming of what the new year will bring. It should come as no surprise that I am also a big fan of choosing a word of the year.
Last years word of the year was action. I think having that word in the back of my mind did help me. It encouraged me to take action in situations where I would normally have stepped back or stayed quiet.
I started thinking about what my word of the year for 2019 should be a couple of months ago. It’s not an easy decision because I really want to grow and improve not only my blog and business life but also my home life in this new year.
Next year marks the 10th anniversary of my stroke and as I get further away from that awful day and how much my life has changed in the nine years. I know I can do more and go further. So this year I’m committed to making epic and full of growth and change.
So my word of the year is
I know that is technically two words but they go together. They are what I want this year to be about. I wanted to choose a word that would not only teach me and help me to grow as a person. But also to encourage me to open up more and share myself more with the people in my life and with this amazing community online that I’m continuing to build.
So I want to be inspired this year and really surround myself with people that inspire me by watching videos of them talk. Reading books and blogs that they write and just getting so inspired by great people.
How I want to be more inspired/Inspiring
1 I want to read more books about or by inspiring people
In my goals for 2019 post, I shared that my goal was to read 75 books this year and to have 25 of those books be written by people who inspire me or be self-improvement books. There are so many books that I want to read and I get a lot out of reading books that are self-help.
I want to read books that inspire me to be a better wife, a better mother, a better blogger and a better person. I want to learn how to be the best version of myself. As much as I love self-help books I also want to read a lot of books just for fun so that’s, why the reading goal is in two parts. Total books and self-help books making up only a third of the total number.

2. I’m going to be more open with the people in my life
This year I became even more aware of the fact that I’m not open with people and that it has lead to me not feeling as connected to the family and friends in my life. I honestly don’t even really notice I do it. I just tend to keep my feelings and the details of my life to myself and not open myself up to people.
People who are really open and allow themselves to be vulnerable especially online are very inspiring to me. So this year I’m going to try to be more open at least with the people in my real life so that I can hopefully get to the point where I can be more open with people I don’t know.
I’m not joking when I say that I struggle with being open with people even my husband and mom have pointed out that this is a problem and if I can’t be more open with them imagine how I am with new people.
It’s so important for me to improve this area of myself so that I don’t teach my daughter to be this way. She is so open and embraces new people so well and I am inspired by her so much that I don’t want to have her start shutting down like me and lose that amazing part of herself.
3. I’m going to stop following people that make me feel bad or uninspired
Part of being more inspired is to get rid of what is not inspiring me. Life is too short to waste time and energy on things that make me feel bad or not good enough. So I’m clearing out my email inbox and my social media feeds of things that don’t inspire me or make me feel better.
I want when I go online to feel more inspired and excited about life. That what I’m reading and seeing brings me joy and makes my life better.
4. I want to make more time for self-improvement and share that journey
Not only do I want to read books that help me improve but I want to learn more this year. Take online classes and become a better blogger. I want to be constantly learning and improving and sharing what that looks like with all of you.
I want to share my journey this year to hopefully inspire some of you to try new things and learn more. To grow and strengthen this community. Especially over on Instagram where I hope you will follow me.
Here is to being inspired in 2019! Did you choose a word for 2019? If so, I’d love to hear what it is
